What is Diploma Supplement?

Diploma Supplement (DS) is a document attached to a higher education diploma in order to consolidate the international transparency and provide the academic and professional recognition of qualifications (diplomas, degrees, certificates, and etc.).  It should be free from any value judgement, equivalence statements or suggestions about recognition.  It is designed to provide a description of the nature, level, context, content, and status of the studies that were pursued and successfully completed by the individual named on the original diploma to which the diploma supplement is appended. It also accommodates to local needs.

Diploma Supplement is arranged in accordance with a template jointly prepared by national institutions, the European Commission, and a study group of UNESCO.

Diploma Supplement is composed of eight sections:

What is not a Diploma Supplement?

What are the benefits of Diploma Supplement for students?

What are the benefits of Diploma Supplement for an higher education institution?

Why is Diploma Supplement essential?

New qualifications are developing all over the world and the countries are constantly adapting their qualification systems and educational structures to rapid commercial, political, and
technological advancements.  Mobil citizens, who are fast growing, are demanding the fair assessment of their competencies. Today, the lack of recognition of qualifications or their incomplete evaluation has become a global problem. Since the original documents themselves do not offer sufficient information, it is of extreme difficulty to evaluate the level and function of any qualification without providing detailed description.
